This was a Balloon Flight from Cambridgeshire into Lincolnshire It has been a ‘funny old summer’ and for those of you think running a hot air balloon business is good fun, trying to make sense of ever changing weather forecasts can be challenging and at times very frustrating. Today was such a day. It was all down to wind speed one forecaster saying yes, another no, and one saying maybe. We had ten very keen passengers; so we jumped into the land rovers and drove down to Peterborough to give it our best shot. Knowing that we may have to postpone on site if the wind was to strong but we would only know that when we were there.
A phone call to Peterborough parachute centre confirmed that the wind was within safe limits ‘Thank goodness’ We were airborne at 7.00 p.m. quickly climbed out of werrington sports centre and at a 1,000 we could see across the wash and the outline of the Norfolk coast. Then right across to Rutland Water. We were heading up to market Deeping and the west side of Spalding. The wind had started to increase a little and we had been in the air for an hour so it was time to find somewhere safe to land. The hot air balloon landed in lincolnshire Right over the top of surfleet church and landed in a cultivated field at Surfleet Seas end.
