This hot air balloon flight was over Lincolnshire. We met our passenger’s friends & family on the Ken Stimpson playing at Werrington Sport Centre in Peterborough. Everyone was excited at the prospect of their flight. We launched at 6.10 p.m. and climbed out to 1,500 feet. Our flight path was taking us up to the south of Crowland. The visibility was good. We could see across both sides of the wash.
The Lincolnshire coast up to Boston was in clear view also the cliffs at Hunstanton on the Norfolk coast were clearly visible. Our ground crew caught up with us after half an hour with several cars following the Land Rover and Balloon trailer. Our retrieve ‘convoy’ were greatly excited as we made a low approach close to them. This is a great photo opportunity. Fenland airfield was to our front, so radio contact was made to ensure our safe passage through their airspace. After agood hour in the air the balloon landed in a stubble field in Holbeach St John Lincolnshire. Our crew had a good chat with the Farm Manager who was more than happy for us to retrieve the balloon. Our merry band of followers came into the field to help deflate & pack up the balloon.
One lady remarked that the county of Lincolnshire had ‘Wide Horizons’ This can be most appreciated at sunset with unrestricted views from east to west, she was absolutely right he sunset was beautiful that evening. So we raised our glasses to celebrate our flight. What a wonderful end to the day.
